A Happy and Joyful Year-End Review?
Go with the flow of natural energy—and don’t pet the cat against the grain :-)
“… Christmas is coming after a year has passed, sing along, friends, merry and bright …”
Before you sit down with your loved ones at the Christmas Eve table, try to find a moment for a little “recap” of this past year.
Opportunities don’t just fall into the laps of those who aren’t prepared for them. Try going over this year’s opportunities one more time. Maybe you overlooked something, or didn’t see the opportunity in it?
And do you know how to recognize the right opportunity for you or your business? It’s called “sparking that spark”!
Go through your phone and make a list of this year’s new contacts. Look back at your emails, project proposals, or ideas you haven’t implemented yet. Also, don’t write down everything you’re currently working on or planning. Those lines that make our hearts race with excitement, joy, or anticipation—that’s where our spark and potential for fulfillment lie. Not someone else’s wishes or goals, but our own. If we’re already looking forward to getting started and can envision the steps to make it happen, then that’s exactly the right topic for us—one worth developing into strategic perfection and bringing to life next year. This is where we’re in our greatest flow, and all our steps will come naturally, smoothly, and “just right.”
3 Principles for Mastering 2026:
1. Plan and forecast… in writing! Don’t worry about whether your plan is perfect according to accounting rules; instead, focus on a management overview that gives you a quick and accurate answer.
2. PMS review—back to basics. You’ll get accurate data primarily from your PMS, RMS, or another BI tool. But it all starts with “simple steps” like making sure your guest segments are set up correctly. And are you sure that everyone is entering reservations honestly and correctly into your hotel system? Otherwise, the rule applies: “garbage in, garbage out.” Sorry, but that’s just how it is. There’s nothing sadder than a revenue manager’s precise work based on inaccurate data.
3. Revenue Marketing. If you don’t want to waste your hard-earned resources on pseudo-marketing and untargeted ads, but instead want to invest them strategically with a proper return in the form of actual reservations, focus on Revenue Marketing. Your revenue manager is the key to properly targeted sales and marketing. He or she is the right person to answer specific questions related to this. Don’t underestimate the role of the revenue manager. It really isn’t just about intuitively tweaking prices in the channel manager. And relying too heavily on an RMS to do it for us is, of course, nonsense. Because even AI-based RMS systems learn from us, and it will still take some time before the results are accurate.
